  1. Every effort will be made to ensure that the goods entrusted to us are securely shipped to the destination. However, if the goods are improperly packed or overloaded by the customer, we shall not be responsible for any damages that may occur during transit. We advise that all fragile items be packed in proper wooden box(es).

  2. Customers are strongly advised to insure their goods against any losses/damages that may occur during sea/air/overland transport, or during customs inspections at the port of clearance. We will neither entertain any claims for losses/damages nor provide insurance coverage on behalf of the customers.

  3. To ensure quick clearance, it is imperative that the consignee's details, especially their full name (including initials) and contact numbers, are accurately stated on all relevant documentation and, if necessary, on the packages. The name on the consignee’s identity document (passport/national identity card) must exactly match the details provided in the documentation and on the packages.

  4. Our charges stated for door-to-door service include freight charges, all associated clearance charges, and delivery charges to the destination address, but do not include collection charges. Charges for air parcels are calculated excluding customs duties and other levies.

  5. Our door-to-door delivery service is an optional extra provided by Don Shipping for all shipments. If the customer does not wish to utilise this service, they will need to pay only the following charges in the United Kingdom: collection, freight, packing, cost of box(es), and warehouse charges. The goods will then be shipped to a nominated cargo clearing warehouse or to the seaport/airport ("door-to-warehouse/port") in the destination country, where they must be cleared by the consignee or an assigned representative. Under the door-to-warehouse service, all charges outside the UK must be borne by the consignee.

  6. If the customer chooses our door-to-warehouse services, the goods will be stored in our warehouse for a maximum of 14 days. Any goods stored for more than 14 days will incur additional warehouse charges. If the goods are not removed within one month of being cleared by us, they may be destroyed or sold at auction.

  7. The optional door-to-door service is only applicable to deliveries to ground floor locations and to places that are easily accessible.

  8. The liner agents provide estimated arrival dates to Colombo only. We are not responsible for any delays caused by factors beyond our control. Under normal circumstances, the standard transit time from the United Kingdom to Colombo is 30 days from the onboard date, with a minimum of five working days for clearance.

  9. The quoted freight charges exclude additional costs such as the cost of packing materials, pallets, wooden boxes/cases, collection charges, and labour charges for packing/handling.

  10. Items of a perishable nature, as well as commercial and restricted goods, cannot and will not be shipped in personal effects containers. For more details, please refer to the Restricted Items page on www.donshipping.co.uk/restricted-items.

  11. In addition to restricted items, customers are strongly advised that shipping hazardous materials, such as bleach or oil products, in cardboard boxes or cartons is strictly prohibited in personal effects containers and will result in heavy penalties at the point of clearance.

  12. Sri Lanka Customs has imposed restrictions on the shipment of alcohol, mobile phones, and landline phones. Additionally, strict restrictions apply to commercial quantities and commercial cargo shipped under personal effects.

  13. Cardboard cartons must not exceed the recommended maximum weight guidelines or be packed to breaking, bulging, or bursting point. They should be in a condition that facilitates handling. An additional handling charge will apply for each box that does not meet these conditions. We do not accept responsibility for any damage that may occur to overweight or improperly packed boxes during handling.

  14. There are strict weight restrictions on corrugated cartons: the weight must not exceed 50kg per tea carton, 70kg per medium box, 80kg per large box, and 100kg per extra-large carton. Cargo exceeding these weight limits will incur additional charges.

  15. For all affected shipments, customers are kindly requested to accurately and completely declare all goods handed over to us. Any incorrect/non-declarations will result in strict penalties imposed by Sri Lanka Customs and/or will result in Sri Lanka Customs placing a lien on the goods, and the shipment will be retained by Sri Lanka Customs.

  16. Our drivers are responsible for collection and delivery only; they do not handle packing. If the customer requires packing for their goods, they must inform Don Shipping in advance so that necessary arrangements can be made.

  17. All amounts stated in the invoice must be paid in full by the customer in the United Kingdom before the shipping date. Unpaid consignments will not be shipped until full payment is made. Delayed payments may also result in storage charges and late payment charges.

  18. If customer/s have a Sri Lankan passport with an allowance, they are advised that if they wish to avail themselves of any duty concessions and allowances by presenting their Sri Lankan passport at the point of clearance, they should not attempt to make any purchases at the destination port or in duty-free shops in other transit countries using the same passport. Doing so will result in the cancellation of their allowances and having to pay full customs duty charges.

  19. All documentation provided by Don Shipping to the customer or produced at clearance must bear both the customer's signature and the authorized signatory of Don Shipping.

  20. Televisions are subject to restrictions on personal effects cargo as follows: televisions up to 60 inches are allowed, provided they are cleared using all available duty-free concessions and allowances on the consignor’s passport. Televisions over 60 inches are subject to a strict tax regime, and duty will need to be paid.

  21. If the consignor changes their mind and decides to remove the goods handed over to us before shipment, the collection, handling, and storage charges will have to be borne by the consignor, and the goods must be removed at the consignor's expense.

  22. If you do not wish to adhere to any of the above terms and conditions, you may withdraw your shipment at any time during office hours before the loading date, provided you have made the relevant payments to us in advance.
